Last week I had the chance to attend the CLIC Conference in Alexandria, VA and I had a GREAT time! It was a short trip but totally worth the drive up and I would absolutely recommend going to this conference. This post will be all about the first part of my trip to Alexandria with a second to come soon after for the shoot! On to the trip fun!
On Sunday, Dawn & I arrived at Hotel Monaco (see the gorgeous beds above) much later than anticipated. We were starving by the time we got to the hotel and settled in our room, so we decided to go out and grab some grub at the Basin Street Lounge! The food was amazing and I highly recommend ordering the crab cakes and baked mac & cheese. YUM!
The next morning we were up bright and early for the first day of the conference!! The first speaker of the day was Rachel Boer and she was so informative. She spoke mostly on pricing and really confirmed some of what I’ve been doing – but also showed what I need to adjust. Sadly my coffee hadn’t taken effect yet so I don’t have a shot of her 🙁 Following her speech there was an icebreaker activity involving apples and teams – but I won’t give the whole thing away.
Next up was Rachel Brenke and WOW! I am absolutely head over heels for her – she was so great to listen to! She spoke on the “boring topics” which weren’t boring at all! You can see Amanda Hedgepeth below obviously very enthralled in the “boringness” of Rachel’s talk. Side note: I’m mentoring with Amanda in October and was SO excited to meet her and listen to her speak beforehand. She’s just as sweet as she is on social media!
Sometimes you just have to mess around with seat partners during breaks 😉
Can we talk about how gorgeous the Athenaeum is? There was even a small garden out back so you know I had to sneak out and take some quick snaps of it.
The hotel lobby is just gorgeous! And we had to stop at the Lavender Moon Cupcakery for midday yumminess. After cupcakes and speakers, Dawn & I headed out after some rest to explore Alexandria for the rest of the night.
If you’re hungry in Alexandria please go to Columbia Firehouse. It was not only delicious but gorgeous!
When things got dark after dinner did we go back to the room? NOPE! Have camera, will take super dark shots around a foreign city with cute umbrellas.
Day two held more speakers and the styled shoot. The day started off pretty gloomy as there were flash flood warnings galore! Kaitlin Holland started the day off with styling basics which was so interesting. She runs the School of Styling and I’m honestly considering attending their next workshop. Tyler Corvin then spoke on sustaining a business followed by Katelyn James with the Power of Posing! I was very happy to find that a lot of what I do naturally with clients is what Katelyn teaches and we even have similar views on running a business and how that can benefit the client as well. It makes me want to attend one of her workshops even more!
Overall I had such a great time at the conference portion of CLIC and it really gets me excited for future conferences I’ll be attending! Now, check out the shots I took at the styled shoot. 🙂
Wishing you exploration time in a beautiful town,
